The University of Bedfordshire is offering free places to Luton companies on an innovative career management course.
The Learn to Manage programme, which leads to a recognised qualification from the Institute of Leadership Management (ILM), has been designed to be flexible to enable those in full-time employment to study the course.
Susan Drinkwater, University Project Manager, said: “The course will benefit both employees and companies and enhance career progression. It has been running for almost a year and we’ve already trained 63 people. Now we’re getting ready to welcome a new intake next month so we hope eligible companies will take advantage of this opportunity.”
The programme combines interactive workshops with home study material and tutor support and workshops. All materials, exam registrations and study packs are free of charge.
Places are free to those employed in the Luton area, who work for small-to-medium sized businesses. This includes voluntary, charitable and not for profit organisations (excluding public sector organisations).
An awards ceremony was held on 8 February for the latest group of participants who successfully complete their Learning to Manage studies. Henna Mahmood who works for training provider EMLC was delighted to receive his certificate. She said: “I’m so pleased that I have completed the course. It has directly resulted in me gaining promotion and it's given me more confidence to put forward my business ideas.”
Fellow delegate, Tracey Cooke from Luton Vision Plus Ltd, added: “Following a recent promotion at work, I signed up for the course to help with my leadership and management skills. I'm really glad I did it - it was very inspiring and I found it useful and relevant to my job. It helped me to plan, use and manage resources to make better decisions.
“This enhanced my personal and professional development and greatly improved my confidence. I also gained 30 University credits, which I hope to put towards a degree in Business Management.”
