Year 11 pupils from Icknield High School gave up their lie-in on Saturday 4 April to attend an all-day conference at the University of Bedfordshire.
The A* Conference gave students with the potential to achieve top grades information on study skills and tips to help them prepare for their forthcoming GCSE exams.

The day began with speaker Eric
O’Halleran, from the Learning Performance Group, who gave two dynamic sessions
on study skills.
He showed the students relaxing massage techniques, and then
went on to explain how the mind works and demonstrate methods of remembering
large amounts of information.
Everyone also took part in story-writing activities that linked key information, goal setting, mind mapping and a range of discussions.
During lunch, the students were given a tour of the University and had the opportunity to talk about their futures with members of the Student Recruitment team, Lal Joshi and Hayley Phillips.
In the afternoon, Laurie Fraine, Assistant Chief Examiner, gave some top tips on preparing for the GCSE English exams.

The conference was organised by Icknield High School’s ‘Gifted and Talented’ Co-ordinator Sarah Farrar. She said: “The students had a wonderful day and have taken away a lot of techniques that will help them prepare for the GCSEs and hopefully achieve top grades.”
The University’s Head of Student Recruitment, Lal Joshi, said: “This was a great event for the University to host. The pupils seemed genuinely engaged and we’re hoping that some of them will be back here in a few years as undergraduates.”
