With the recession biting hard, graduates
of the University
of Bedfordshire
will need all the help they can get trying to find work.
Now, the Centre for Personal and Career Development (CPCD) has been strengthened by advisor Ajaz Hussain’s recent award of a Post Graduate Diploma in Careers Guidance.
Ajaz’s PgDip recognises two years’ hard work at the University of Reading where he spent one day a week while continuing his position with the University of Bedfordshire.
The course covered a range of topics designed to further the students’ understanding of the market of careers guidance. Ajaz studied subjects such as one-to-one guidance, careers education, inter-agency working and group working sessions.
All these new skills will be crucial to the CPCD which last year conducted 1,282 one-to-one guidance sessions, organised 14 major career events and approached more than 100 employers engaging more than 1,000 students.
With traditional avenues of employment becoming less practical, Ajaz has urged students to come to the CPCD for advice.
He said: “We in the CPCD are passionate about not just finding work, but finding the right work, for our students and graduates. My qualification formally recognises the skills we possess here.”
Ajaz’s achievements have not gone unrecognised within the University. Both he and colleague Priya Chauhan received Commitment to Employability awards at the recent Staff Summer Party and Awards afternoon.
