Countries from Africa and Australasia are going to be the latest to visit these shores to view the University of Bedfordshire’s impressive facilities.
Ivory Coast and Papua New Guinea are just two of the European, African and Far East countries lured by BOOST, an organisation set up in an attempt to bring the benefit of the Olympics and Paralympics to Bedfordshire.
Three representatives from the Ivory Coast Paralympic Committee will be visiting Bedfordshire in September. They will be the committee’s president, along with a powerlifting athlete and a powerlifting coach.
In the Games last year, they competed in athletics and powerlifting, and the latter will be provided on site at the University’s Bedford campus.
The representatives, in the country from 12-18 September, will be visiting the local sports facilities and the University itself on the Sunday (13 September).
And a member of the Papua New Guinea Paralympic Committee is also in town for two days later that same week.
He will be arriving in Bedford for a mayoral reception on Thursday (17 September) and again will be visiting the University later in the day as a possible venue for a training base.
In Beijing, Papua New Guinea competed in athletics and they will be looking for coaching expertise to assist with training.
Rwanda and Bermuda have already visited the University and expressed an interest in pre-Games training opportunities locally.
They assessed the accommodation and sports science/sports facilities which the University has on offer via the 2012 facilities training camps brochure.
