The University of Bedfordshire is celebrating after scooping a Gold and Silver at this year’s prestigious CIPR (Chartered Institute of Public Relations) PRide awards.

The awards recognise excellence in communications and public relations throughout the UK and this year attracted more than 1,400 entries from across the country. The University was judged in the Thames and Chiltern region.

The University won Gold in the category Best Newspaper or Magazine for Life, its monthly publication for staff and students. It was competing against Hertsmere Borough Council’s Hertshere and Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s Hospital News.

The judges said: “Life delivered stimulating and engaging news stories, insights, features and feedback and reader views, helping to inform and engage its audience and generate a unified sense of community among the university’s multiple sites and diverse population. A very well executed publication. Very well done.”

University of Bedfordshire Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE said: “We are thrilled to win these awards. It is always pleasing to get industry recognition and these awards are proof of the value and success of the University’s communications and public relations.”

Paul Davison, Chair of CIPR Thames and Chiltern said: “A CIPR PRide Award is a hallmark of professionalism and success – it identifies, recognises and rewards the outstanding achievements of those working in the PR industry outside London. To win a CIPR PRide Award is a tremendous achievement and I congratulate all of this year’s winners.”

The University won two awards in 2007 for its corporate website and undergraduate prospectus.
