Two successful old boys have returned to let the current crop of media students at the University of Bedfordshire know the inside track on the industry.
Radio DJ and MTV presenter Melvin Odoom, who left in 2001, and freelance film director Dan Turner, who graduated seven years earlier, both spoke to media students at the University’s Luton campus recently.
Melvin, often working in partnership with fellow alumnus Rickie Haywood-Williams, has made steady progress since his first tentative steps broadcasting on Luton FM in 2001.
The pair now have a hugely popular breakfast show, and this year received a Sony silver award (Chris Moyles from Radio 1 only got bronze) and were nominated for a MOBO award in the best DJ category.

Melvin also fronts MTV Digs and runs a club night website with other University alumni. His latest project, being shown over Christmas on MTV, is Music Junkie which sees stars such as Robbie Williams and Tinchy Stryder donate personal items which fans compete to win.
Dan is a freelance film director whose latest film, Girl Number 9, is a collaboration with Dr Who writer James Moran.
Billed as a crime thriller with a difference, it is a made-for-web film which comprises six, five-minute episodes, with each episode ending on a cliffhanger.
The film was largely promoted online through Facebook and Twitter sites and streamed over six nights, the tension of the psycho killer drama builds to a crescendo. Visit www.canyousaveher.com to view it.
Dan is also currently working on his new film, The Man Inside, which is due for release in 2010.
