Sadie Hunt and dance company Shunt

The Place to be is Euston, London, England; the date 13 January, 2010. Read on to discover the reason why.

A new dance lecturer at the University’s Bedford campus, Sadie Hunt, runs her own dance company and she hopes this will mark its big break.

Her dance company, called Shunt, is performing at Resolution! 2010, an annual contemporary dance platform, at the capital’s prestige dance venue The Place.

Resolution! began in 1989 and has helped launch the career of the likes of Wayne McGregor, Javier de Frutos and Hofesh Shecter.

It is aimed at both emerging or returning choreographers and features home-grown as well as international talent.

This will be Shunt’s second successive time at Resolution!, so it will be known as an ‘evolution’ company on this occasion.

Shunt rehearses in St Albans and was formed in 2006. The four other members are all female secondary school dance teachers and collectively they have toured schools in the area for the last three years.

Sadie said: “We are very much a community company as everyone benefits from the sessions. We share our resources and experiences when we meet. I essentially give them practical material in exchange for their time and this works well.”

The inspiration for their forthcoming piece of work is a painting by Charles Williams called ‘Some suggestions for being good’.

Sadie said: “It’s about what it’s like to be a modern woman and the challenges we are all facing.

“My piece this year is very different to what we did last year. I feel much more confident with my own choices this time, whereas last year I was trying to please the critics more. As a company, we are more relaxed generally now and working well together.”

The performance is on Wednesday, 13 January, at 8pm in the Robin Howard Theatre.

The theatre address is 17 Duke’s Road, London, WC1H 9PY. Call the box office on 0207 1211100 or book online at www.theplace.org.uk

There will be more than 100 performances from different artists during January and February at The Place with three separate acts nightly.

Shunt’s performance should then form part of the new professional season at Bedford in the University Theatre. After that, Sadie is hoping to take it to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2010.
