The Ruler of Ajman in the United Arab Emirates has been presented with an honorary award by the University of Bedfordshire.
His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al-Nuaimi was presented with an Honorary Doctor of Laws at a glittering ceremony at the Emiri Court for his outstanding achievements to developing education in Ajman.
Presenting the award, University Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE said: “I am delighted to present this award to His Highness Sheikh Humaid. He has made an outstanding contribution to education and this honour recognises that.
“We have been actively marketing our programmes in the United Arab Emirates for more than ten years and for the past year have enjoyed a collaboration with Preston University-Ajman. This is the first year that Preston University has sent us 16 students and we hope that number will grow in the future.”
Deputy Vice Chancellor (External Relations) Professor Ashraf Jawaid spoke about His Highness’ many initiatives to develop education in the Emirate Ajman.
He opened the first girls’ school in the northern Emirates in 1960 and since then has worked to provide basic education to all boys and girls from the age of six.
Professor Jawaid said: “His Highness is well- known for his unique approach to education and his belief in Education for All echoes our own philosophy here at the University of Bedfordshire.”
