A leading academic at the University of Bedfordshire has won a prestigious award recognising his outstanding contribution to the creative industries in China.
James Crabbe, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Creative Arts, Technologies and Science, and Professor of Biochemistry, was presented with the ‘China Creative Industry International Contribution Award 2008’ from the China Guanghua Foundation and China (Beijing) International Culture and Creative Industry Exposition Committee.
The award recognises his continuing commitment to developing the creative industries in China through his work as a visiting professor at Beijing Normal University and at the International Faculty in Zhuhai and in developing links with numerous other universities across China. These include Fudan University in Shanghai, Chinese Agricultural University in Beijing, and Universities in Shenyang, Nantong, Wuhan, Changsha, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Shijiazhuang, and Lhasa.
Professor Crabbe said: “I’m very pleased to accept this award which reflects the University of Bedfordshire’s ongoing commitment to the creative industries, and our continuing relationship with China at many levels. It is also excellent for the new Bedfordshire Institute of Media and the Creative and Performing Arts, and is a tribute to the dedication of my colleagues in media, art and design over many years.”
Last year Professor Crabbe was invited to give a lecture on creativity and the creative industries relevant to China at an International conference in Fuping and he also gave a lecture on the creative industries more than 200 students and staff at Beijing Normal University. His article on this topic has been published in China and in the Italian arts magazine D'A, and he has just had a paper accepted for the prestigious journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA with colleagues from Fudan University in Shanghai.
