A prominent legal academic has been appointed as the new Head of Law at the University of Bedfordshire.

Professor Janine Griffiths-Baker has moved from the University of Bristol where she was Director of Undergraduate Studies to take up the post at Bedfordshire.

She is practice editor of the journal Legal Ethics and author of Serving Two Masters: Conflicts of Interest in the Modern Law Firm, which provides a thorough consideration of how conflicts of interest are handled within different firms.

She said: “I am really excited about the new position. It is a great privilege, given the School of Law’s excellent reputation. I am confident that by building on existing successes we will achieve one of the University’s key aims of helping students reach their full potential.”

The School of Law at the University of Bedfordshire has been commended by the Quality Assurance Agency, which was very impressed by the quality of teaching provided.

Professor Griffiths-Baker first studied law at the University of Wales, in Cardiff, before undertaking an LLM, a diploma in Legal Practice and a PhD at the University of Bristol. Her main teaching and research interests include legal ethics, criminal law, evidence and property law. She also has a particular interest in solicitors' professional conduct issues, having undertaken research for her doctorate.
