You can catch the London 2012 vibe by signing-up for an exciting new degree course being run at the University of Bedfordshire.
The University’s BA Sport and Community Leadership (SACL) degree starts this September and the first intake of students will graduate in July 2012.
This is just before the Olympics which are being staged in this country for the first time since 1948.
Students will be ready and primed to work on the Government initiatives which form the Olympic legacy and which aim to generate and sustain active lifestyles through sport and physical activity.
Dr Paul Beedie, the course leader for SACL, is actively building partnerships with groups and organisations interested in these exciting developments.
Paul, his staff and the students on SACL will work in partnership with organisations such as Sport England, BOOST (Bedford Olympic Opportunities Support Team) and Team Beds&Luton to promote sport and healthy active lifestyles.
They include building links with the inter-faith community based sports clubs in Queen’s Park, Bedford. This will be notably basketball and cricket but with potential developments for other clubs.
Another is the Sustainable Communities initiative to develop rural sport in places which have limited resources and problems of transport to towns, such as Bedford, where most sports facilities are located.
Paul said: “These partnerships offer exciting opportunities for SACL students to make a real contribution to sports development in urban and rural places.
“They will also gain work experience and contacts for potential employment in this area of work following graduation.”
Applications from mature students who might already have sport development work experience but not a degree are welcomed (full and part-time opportunities).
