‘Nasty Nigel’ Lythgoe is among those being honoured by the University of Bedfordshire next week for his outstanding contribution to the performing arts in television.
Producer, dancer, choreographer and television judge Nigel is being awarded an Honorary Doctor of Arts on Friday (17 July).
The ‘Nasty Nigel’ tag came about in 2000 when he was a judge on hit show ‘Popstars’. He also developed and produced the show ‘Pop Idol’, which has gone from strength to strength, and worked with stars such as Gene Kelly, Bing Crosby, Shirley Bassey and The Muppets!
Others being honoured during the week include Judge John Farnworth, Kirk Reynolds QC, campaigning journalist, author and broadcaster Bea Campbell, businessman Matthew Reeve, music maestro Stephen Beaven and BT Global Services chief executive Hanif Lalani OBE.
This follows award-winning Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan being given an honorary doctorate in Arts and Culture from the University of Bedfordshire at a ceremony in London today (Friday, 10 July).
The University’s graduation ceremonies are taking place from Monday to Friday (13-17 July) at St Mary’s Church in Luton.
There will be graduands from the University’s four faculties - Business School, Health and Social Sciences, Creative Arts, Technologies and Science (CATS) and Education and Sport.
There will also be the annual civic procession through Luton Town Centre on Thursday afternoon (3pm) led by the University of Bedfordshire Pipe Band.
The University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Les Ebdon, said: “Our students have worked incredibly hard to get this far and I congratulate each and every one of them for remaining focused and dedicated throughout.
“I wish them every success for the future whether they enter the world of work or go on to postgraduate study.”
