The University of Bedfordshire has leapt 18 places in The Times Good University Guide 2010 – the most authoritative and widely respected guide to universities in the UK.

The leap makes the University the highest climbing institution in the Guide which ranks 114 UK universities according to eight criteria, including student satisfaction, research quality and degree results.

Commenting on the University’s jump from 89 to 71, Vice Chancellor Les Ebdon CBE, said: “This is fantastic news and recognition of our growing reputation as somewhere students want to come to pursue their goals. The number of applicants to courses is going up weekly.

“It’s also recognition of the hard work our talented staff put in to make the student experience here the best it can be.”

Earlier this month it was announced the University had jumped 13 places in The Independent’s Complete University Guide 2010. It was ranked 72 out of 113 in the guide published in the daily newspaper and online at www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk.

The Times Good University Guide is considered an essential and comprehensive tool for students and parents at home and abroad. It carries chapters on choosing a course and a university, the application process, managing your money as a student, where to live and what to expect in terms of sport. There are also special sections for overseas applicants and for parents, as well as profiles of every university.

This year the tables include the first updated official assessments of research at UK universities for seven years, based on the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). This measures the calibre of academic research and influences the destination of £1.5 billion a year of research funding.

The Guide is published by HarperCollins priced £16.99. Extracts can be found at www.timesonline.co.uk/gug and in today’s (Wed) The Times.
