Beauty and brains go hand in hand for University of Bedfordshire student Laura Brown.
Laura has been crowned Miss Northampton 2009 and is now in the semi-finals of the Miss England competition at Champney Springs on Monday (8 June).
The 21 year old from Barton Seagrave, Kettering, who is in her second year at the University studying specialist make-up and design, said: “I was a bit shocked to win the title but I am really proud.”
Laura said she has worked behind the scenes before, but does not mind a bit of the limelight herself. “You work behind the camera in make-up,” she said. “But it’s also nice to work in front of the camera.”
She is not the stereotypical size eight model, yet is happy with the way she looks and said: “I am proud to be an ambassador for Northamptonshire, and to be representing the curvier girl.”
The contest at The Park Inn Hotel, Northampton, consisted of a catwalk followed by an interview with a panel of six judges including Miss England Laura Coleman.
Former Miss Northampton Kiya Ennos said: “All the girls we interviewed were lovely, but Laura really stood out to all of the judges.
“Not only is she stunning but she had a really friendly, bubbly personality and is a really good role model for girls in Northampton.
“I hope to see her bringing the Miss England crown back to Northampton later on this year and I wish her the best of luck in the semi-finals next week.”
