The recession is biting but the University of Bedfordshire is offering support to its students entering the job market this summer.
Although the current situation is demanding with increased competition for jobs, it is not all gloom and doom for graduates.
The innovative C3 Credit Crunch Challenge Week is taking place at the Luton campus from 15-19 June and is aimed at final year students and recent graduates from both Luton and Bedford.
As well as information on networking, options and strategies, available support and a recruitment session for international students, there are practical sessions around the whole application and interview process.
Careers adviser Marie O’Flaherty said: “It’s our attempt to help our students in the difficult current economic climate and to put them in control of their future.
“We have always supported our graduates for up to three years but this event is additional to our usual services because we recognise that this is a new situation for everyone.
“It’s a difficult and challenging situation at the moment and we’re trying to fill the students with some optimism and offer them coping strategies.
“It’s free to the students as well as any recent graduates living locally. We would encourage people to sign up now via the careers website at www.beds.ac.uk/careers as places are limited due to the accommodation.”
Additional important information for employers
One of the guest speakers during the week is Rob Brown (www.rob-brown.com) who is also speaking to employers on Monday, 15 June.
Rob will be running a masterclass for business and other interested parties on networking and reputation building called ‘Recession Oppression = Recession Opportunities’ from 4pm-5.30pm followed by a wine buffet.
To book your place, which costs £20, email June.Wilson@beds.ac.uk or call 01582 489293.
