University scoops top award for outstanding student recruitment

Times Higher Award ceremony

The University of Bedfordshire is celebrating after scooping a top award for its international student recruitment at a glittering awards ceremony in London.

It won the highly-prestigious Times Higher Education Leadership and Management award for the Outstanding Student Recruitment Team.

Bedfordshire was one of six universities shortlisted for the award but pipped the rest to the post thanks to its outstanding work in the field.

The winners of the inaugural event were announced at the London Hilton Hotel in Park Lane at a gala dinner hosted by comedian and impressionist Rory Bremner and attended by more than 800 people.

Ann Mroz, editor of Times Higher Education, said: “The vision displayed by the University of Bedfordshire’s student recruitment team ensured that they stood out from the crowd, as did their phenomenal success in surpassing a target to increase the number of full-time international students to 1800, a full three years ahead of schedule.”

The awards rewarded excellence in fields ranging from estates to finance, human resources to fundraising with winners hailing from every corner of the sector.

University of Bedfordshire Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE, said: “Congratulations to everyone concerned, including the International Team, Faculties, Marketing and all our colleagues who have given our students such a warm welcome to the University of Bedfordshire.

“Thanks also to our many supporters worldwide including all those in India, China, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nigeria.”

The award was presented to Deputy Vice Chancellor (External Relations) Ashraf Jawaid and the International office team.
