Primary school children in Luton sent messages of encouragement and hope to children suffering from heart disease in Iraq.

Inspired by the recent exhibition at the hat Factory, ‘Iraq - The Forgotten Story’, part of B:Fest the Luton Arts Festival, Year Five pupils from Norton Road Primary School put together messages which were displayed at the exhibition and were then forwarded onto Iraq when the exhibition ended.

The exhibition aimed to highlight the work of the Preemptive Love Coalition, a charitable organisation which is helping thousands of children in Iraq with serious heart conditions to receive life-saving surgery.

‘Iraq – The Forgotten Story’ is a fascinating collection of visual art which promotes peace and understanding of the different cultures in Iraq while telling the forgotten or untold stories of the situations in the country through the eyes of local artists and photographers. It is currently touring the country.

Two local artists, Ian Rowlands and Ben Hodson, decided that these were stories that needed to be told after visiting Northern Iraq earlier this year to meet local artists and to raise awareness of the Preemptive Love Coalition.

Ian and Ben visited the school to talk to the children and they said: “We know how important the work of this charity is for the children of Iraq.

“We were delighted that the children at Norton Road Primary School wanted to send their love and good wishes to them.”
