The pin-up girl of British athletics has become the new poster girl for the University of Bedfordshire.
Jessica Ennis appeared on the front cover of ‘Athletics Weekly’, the leading track and field athletics magazine in the world, wearing a University of Bedfordshire bib.
The Great Britain heptathlete from Sheffield was appearing at the prestigious Bedford International Games (BIG) at the end of May.
Ian Roberts, a senior lecturer at the University, was involved in the liaison between the University, one of the partners in the event, and the BIG organisers.
University students performed a number of duties including sports therapy, administration and various other support roles.
Ian said: “It’s really important that the University’s profile is prominent at an event like this one.
“We aim to keep the same level of commitment in the future, particularly with our involvement in the BOOST discussions that are ongoing about training camps for the 2012 Olympics.
“It continues to raise our profile in track and field and elite sport in general.”
The Bedford International Games was first staged in 1994 and has featured the likes of Sally Gunnell, Tessa Sanderson and Darren Campbell over the years.
