One woman from the University is hoping to swap the sanctuary of the library for the wilds of Borneo – but needs your help to make the dream a reality.

Natalie Botes, who works in Learning Resources at Park Square, Luton, is planning a week-long trip which involves more than ten hours of physical activity each day.

She and a small party are travelling to Borneo in Indonesia on 17 October to take part in a gruelling 20km ascent of Mount Kninabalu - South East Asia’s highest mountain - followed by a 117km bike ride across the Sabah heartland and a raft down the Kiulu River. Their journey will end at the edge of the South China Sea.

Natalie said: “It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and when the opportunity arose, there was no way I could say no!

“Borneo is one of the most ecologically and climatically diverse terrains on earth, making this a unique and extreme experience.”

Funds raised are going to The Prince’s Trust, the youth charity which helps change young lives in this country.

It gives practical and financial support, developing skills such as confidence and motivation. It works with 14 to 30 year olds who have struggled at school, have been in care, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law.

Natalie needs to raise £2,500 by August and a further £1,000 by the end of November. If you are interested in sponsoring Natalie, go to www.justgiving.com/nataliebotes And if you choose the gift aid option, an extra 28 per cent will be added to your total at no extra cost.
