Pupils from a Bedford school had their first taste of university life recently. The University of Bedfordshire invited Year 12 pupils from Biddenham Upper School to the Luton campus for a day of lectures, campus tours, lunch and a question and answer session with current students.
The day began with a talk about the UCAS application process, how to make the most of open days and what applicants can expect from the process itself. One pupil Abida Sultana said: “It helped me to look beyond the prospectus.”
After the talk pupils were able to experience a psychology lecture and seminar for themselves. Pupil Patrick Meniru found the lecture “very interesting and useful.”
The students then had a tour of the Luton facilities. After lunch the pupils got the opportunity to field their own questions to the Student Ambassadors.
Head of Sixth Form, Nicky Kemp described the visit as “a fantastic opportunity.”
“For some students, this will mark the start of the UCAS process,” she said.
“Many of the students felt very welcome. It was real a privilege to be invited today,” said Nicky.
The University of Bedfordshire’s Head of Student Recruitment Lal Joshi said: “I am pleased we were able to give the students an experience of university life, and now they have a sense of what it’s about. It’s important to have that experience early in the UCAS process.”
