Professor Mary Malcolm will join the University of Bedfordshire as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) from the start of the new academic year in September.

Professor Malcolm joins Bedfordshire from the University of Abertay, Dundee, where she is currently Vice-Principal (Academic Development).

Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE commented: “We are delighted that Professor Malcolm is to join our team. She has had a distinguished academic career to date and is held in high regard among her peers. She will be a tremendous asset to this University.”

Professor Malcolm joined Abertay in 1997, after spending nine years in Dubai teaching and setting up small businesses, including a number in the training and consultancy area. After an early-career focus on Old Norse literature, Professor Malcolm’s more recent research interests lie in higher education, and, in particular, in the roles of technology and of research in learning and teaching.

She said: “I am thrilled to be joining the University of Bedfordshire. The University’s strategic plan offers the compelling proposition of a transformational educational experience. Combining this with its established role in widening access and success within higher education puts down a clear marker of Bedfordshire’s achievements and its ambitions. I am very much looking forward to joining the University community that delivers that vision, and to working with colleagues on the continued development of Bedfordshire’s academic strength and reputation.”
