Guys and gals from the University of Bedfordshire were wearing their Rolexes for the glitzy Students’ Union May Ball.
Some 600 students from the University's Luton, Bedford and Aylesbury campuses donned their evening wear to see headline acts Wiley and Goldie Lookin Chain perform at the Bedford Corn Exchange on Tuesday night (19 May).
Wiley, most famous for his hit song 'Wearing My Rolex', wowed the crowd who were all wearing tuxedos and dresses. And Maggot et al from the Welsh funsters Goldie Lookin Chain even mingled with the students before and after their lively set.
As well as the two acts, live DJs kept up the pace of the evening while there was also a jazz band, casino and magicians, with a photographer present to record the event.
Tom Phillips, President of the University's Students’ Union, said the evening was a great success and both acts went down well. “The students were dressed to impress and really enjoyed themselves. The atmosphere was great and everyone had a fantastic time. We've never had a May Ball with such big headline acts before and it shows the students we care about them and the event. We will be looking to do a bigger and even better one next year.”
It was also the first time students from the Aylesbury campus had attended the May Ball. Tom added: “It was good to have so many students from across the University involved. All the students mixed together. Now they will be concentrating on their exams!”
A trio of Luton students - Tom Fellas, Jodie Lockwood and Hayley Ryan - were all impressed with the night.
Tom said: “I thought the atmosphere was fantastic, the bands were all brilliant, drinks were really well priced and the casino was a brilliant bonus.”
Jodie said: “I had a fantastic night; it was a great merger event for all campuses. Everything about the ball was brilliant. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. It’s definitely a night for UBSU to remember.”
And Hayley said: “The venue was perfect. I thought GLC were great and the jazz band was a really nice touch. Everything was well priced and overall I had a great night.”
Bedford student Adam Calvert said: “What a really good night it was - great venue mixed with great company, music and acts! “For those who attended, thank you for a brilliant night out and for those who did not attend, unlucky! You missed one of the best nights out of this year.”
