The University has joined forces with a Chinese University to set up a partnership between the two institutions.

Four representatives from Zhejiang University of Media and Communications (ZUMC) including Chairman of the University Council Professor Xi Jianhu visited Bedfordshire and were given a tour of the University’s teaching and research facilities.

At the partnership signing ceremony Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE said: “This is a very exciting move and a great opportunity for collaboration between two forward-thinking universities. It has paved the way for a substantial collaboration which will benefit both students and staff of the two universities.”

The delegation from China also met Professor James Crabbe, Dean of Creative Arts, Technologies and Science; Peter Dean, Head of Media Arts and Production; Helen Bailey, Head of Performing Arts and English; and Harry Wang, Director of the International Office, among other University staff. They looked around the media facilities, viewed the performing arts areas and art studios.

The universities will now collaborate in the areas of media, computer science, performing arts, animation and art and design. The length of time ZUMC students will study at the University to complete University of Bedfordshire degrees will vary according to the course.

The Universities will also join forces to take part in the China International Cartoon and Animation Festival in Hanzhou. The Festival celebrates cartoons and animations from around the world and allows artists to exhibit their illustrations.

Harry Wang said: “As well as the teaching and research facilities, the delegation was very impressed with the student accommodation.

“We are delighted to have set up this partnership, thanks to the introduction and efforts of our Deputy Vice Chancellor (External Relations) Professor Ashraf Jawaid.

“We have always wanted to increase our international recruitment in China and this collaboration will help us to extend our reach there.”
