Freshers' Week Angels

The towns of Luton and Bedford will be buzzing with new students when they arrive for Freshers’ Week next Saturday (26 September).

A fun-filled programme has been organised by the University of Bedfordshire Students’ Union (UBSU) to welcome them to town.

When they arrive, new students will be met by Freshers’ Angels, a specially trained team of student volunteers who show them the campus and help them to get to know the local area, so they feel at home and supported in their new surroundings.

The Students’ Union will also be putting on a free barbecue and a welcome evening at both campuses so freshers can get to meet other like-minded new students. The welcome party in Bedford is at Saints and Sinners, the new official student bar in the town.

Jules Sadlier, President of the UBSU, said: “We’ve put on a packed week of activities to ensure that students’ first week at university is exciting, entertaining and is packed full of opportunities to meet new people whilst being as safe as possible.

“We have students from around the world studying at the University of Bedfordshire, so we have designed our Freshers’ Week activities to allow all students to get involved and have a fun-filled first week. It is vital for all our students to get to know and meet their fellow students, their university and the town.”

An entertainment programme has been organised at Luton including a Freshers’ Party at the Students’ Union, a pool party, a cabaret night and a European culture and music night.

A packed programme at Bedford has also been organised including a Freshers’ Party, comedy night, a pool party and a cabaret night. Students will also have the chance to attend live band nights and meet other new students, and throughout the week various nights will introduce students to the many bars, clubs and social venues across Bedford.

Students will get a chance to join the wide range of clubs and societies the Students' Union has to offer including sports clubs, religious, international, radio, drama, film and creative writing societies at the Freshers’ Fayres in Bedford (Wednesday, 30 September) and Luton (Friday, 2 October).

The fayres will also provide freshers with a chance to talk to local businesses, banks, shops and charities to find out what services they offer students as well as pick up an array of freebies. The University support services will also be on hand, so students can learn more about their place of study and what support is available.
