Lord Mandelson’s speech at the Labour Party Conference has been welcomed by Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE.
Speaking as chair of the think tank million+, Professor Ebdon said: “I warmly welcome Lord Mandelson's statement that every person who is capable should get the chance to go to university, get an apprenticeship or a new skill.
“This is an important commitment from Labour and the Government is absolutely right to dismiss all those pessimists who suggest that more university students means worse.
“People with university degrees and skills do earn more, and so create more value for their families, the economy and society. We must now have a commitment that everyone who wants to go to university is funded to do so in 2010."
Lord Mandelson, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills was speaking at the Conference in Brighton.
