Chancellor Alistair Darling had a whistle stop tour of the Innovation Centre just outside Luton on the next stage of the campaign trail.
He dropped by after Innovation Day 2010 which is a partnership event organised by the University of Bedfordshire’s business arm the Knowledge Hub and various local partners.
Mr Darling met Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE, Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Andrew Slade and Innovation Director Dr Wesley Randle as well as key staff from the Knowledge Hub.
He was shown around the Innovation Day exhibits then had a private meeting with Professor Ebdon, Professor Slade, Dr Randle and a group of business delegates who had taken part in the event as well as local party colleagues.
Discussions included the growth of China and the University’s international links with that part of the world as well as India. Professor Ebdon also spoke of the University’s strong employability record.

Speaking about Innovation Day, Mr Darling said: “I was very impressed with the range of businesses represented. It is precisely that innovation that we want to encourage.”
The day at Basepoint Innovation and Business Centre, Butterfield Business Park, attracted a range of businesses from all over Bedfordshire representing health, digital industries and green technologies.
The Knowledge Hub is the University’s gateway to research and business development services. .As well as innovation and enterprise support for companies and entrepreneurs, it offers professional and bespoke training, consultancy from internationally- recognised experts, networking events and state-of-the-art facilities.
