The poet and novelist Ben Okri OBE will be among the keynote speakers addressing the 16th International Reflective Practice Conference hosted by the University June 23-25.
Also speaking will be Professor Jennifer Moon, Associate Professor at Bournemouth University, who has written widely about the importance of reflection in human learning and Kathleen Armour, who recently took up a chair at the School of Education at the University of Birmingham.
The conference was conceived in 1994 to bring together health professionals studying at the University of Bedfordshire and other multidiscipline experts to consider how reflective practice can aid clinical health care. The conference now attracts an international audience and speakers from different organisations world-wide.
This year’s busy programme of events also includes a performance by Amanda Price and April Nunes from the University and a talk by Keith Jebb, Senior Lecturer and programme leader in Creative Writing. So far, more than 35 people have registered to attend the event.
The University’s Professor of Nursing Christopher Johns, is urging all staff and students with an interest in this field to attend. “Reflective practice is a key learning approach within cre8 and the professional practice curriculum generally,” said Professor Johns.
“I would also like to remind people to use their professional and educational networks to promote this conference to help ensure its success, especially as we have such prominent key note speakers alongside our own.”
The conference is organised by Sarah Waller and the University's Knowledge Hub. There are spaces for two papers around the themes of developing reflective practice in curriculum, and narrative inquiry and performance. If you would like to present on these themes, contact Professor Johns chris.johns@beds.ac.uk
