Luton South Liberal Democrat candidate Councillor Qurban Hussian dropped in at the University on a fact-finding mission recently.
Councillor Hussain met Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE before being shown around the University’s media facilities, learning resources centre, the site of the new campus centre and business pods.
Qurban was first elected onto Luton Borough Council in 1996 for the Labour party. He is now a Liberal Democrat councillor for Biscot after leaving Labour in 2003 in protest at the Iraq War.
Qurban, who is standing in his second general election for the Liberal Democrats, said: “This University has an enormous impact on the local and national economy and it contributes internationally as well. Luton benefits from people being trained locally and then getting jobs locally.
“Courses such as midwifery, nursing and teacher training lead to the kind of jobs this country desperately needs, so it should be supported as much as possible.
“I want people throughout our community to have access to be best education possible and I am proud that our town has such a fantastic facility in our University.”
