Students from Barnfield College got an experience of university life and teaching at a special taster day.

The students enjoyed a teaching session in the University’s £1.2 million business pods from accounting and finance lecturer Dr Sudesh Sangray. The pods offer students an interactive learning environment that mirrors the real world of business.

Tahmina Begum, a business student at the College, said: “It was good fun and was very interactive. The University has a good atmosphere. I plan to go to university straight after College to study accounting.”

Another student Sadiqul Choudhury added: “I enjoyed the teaching. It was fun.”

The students were given a tour of the University campus by an ambassador and took part in a question and answer session with the Head of Student Recruitment Lal Joshi.

Jim Gannon, the students’ tutor at Barnfield College, said: “I wanted the students to get an impression of university life. Unless they experience it first hand they will never know what it is like. I have seen many students change their mind about going to university after experiencing a day like today.

“I was impressed by the business pods. They really are the new way of teaching and the students love them.”

Lal said: “It was a great opportunity for students to get a taste of what it’s like to study at university and to give them advice on what their options are. We also wanted to show off the fantastic facilities the University has.”

The next open day is Saturday, 6 February at the Luton campus and Saturday, 13 February at the Bedford campus.
