New internships scheme launched

20 Jan 2010 10:43:42

Could your business use the skills and services of a graduate for up to three months? If so, make sure you apply quickly to the new internships scheme from the University of Bedfordshire.

Part of a national initiative to help both local companies and graduates seeking quality work experience, this scheme offers businesses an extra, high calibre resource, at a heavily subsidised rate.

Eamonn Keenan, Associate Director at the University’s Knowledge Hub, said:

“Graduates bring keen minds and fresh ideas, along with enthusiasm to learn and contribute to the company, and businesses can benefit from this without making a long-term commitment.

“They can get a flavour of the latest thinking in a specific business or technology area, the opportunity to ‘road-test’ a particular graduate or a chance to see how, more generally, a graduate might fit into their type of business.

“ As well as benefiting from a motivated and enthusiastic worker, this is an excellent opportunity for local companies to see what a graduate can offer their business and to take advantage of graduates from the University of Bedfordshire, with its top rate reputation for employability.”

Graduate levels of unemployment are high in this country. Getting quality work experience can help people progress onto their chosen career.

The University is urging businesses who are interested in taking advantage of these heavily subsidised internships to get in touch quickly to secure one of the 75 places on offer.

Graduates will be paid the national minimum wage and the employer will be subsidised by the University to reduce this cost significantly. Funding is provided by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). The internships will last between eight and twelve weeks.
