New UCAS Chief Executive Mary Curnock-Cook made a special visit to the University’s Luton campus.
Mary was given a tour of the campus, shown the new
Campus Centre and visited Fairview
House to meet the Marketing, Admissions, Recruitment and Communications
Department (MARC).
Mary met members of the Admissions team, who processed more than 17,000 applications through UCAS this year.
Following her tour, Mary had lunch with Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE, and Susie King, Head of UK/EU Admissions.
Discussions at lunch focussed on the role UCAS can play in breaking down barriers of entry for students to higher education, especially relating to the recognition and inclusion of a wider variety of qualifications for entry.
Susie King said: “It is really important that the University raises its profile within UCAS, especially as Admissions works so closely with them to ensure the University achieves its recruitment targets.
“UCAS can be seen as a barrier to entry for many applicants who have successful joined the University. The University wanted to make Mary aware of these issues as she begins her new role, so UCAS considers what process improvements to consider making.”
