Nicola Dandridge

Nicola Dandridge, chief executive of Universities UK, a membership organisation for the higher education sector, visited the University to see first hand how it is planning for the future.

After meeting with the Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE and other members of the University’s executive top team, she made a tour of the Luton campus, including the redevelopment of the new £34m Campus Centre, which she described as “hugely impressive”.

“There is so much talk in the press about cuts that it is very exciting to see University’s very positive plans for the future,” she said.

Nicola, who was making her first visit to the University, discussed with the University’s management a range of issues, including widening participation, its successful international programme and lifting the VAT penalty on shared services.

“Part of the reason for being here today was to explain how Universities UK can provide support in helping to address the issues that are affecting universities in today’s challenging environment. It was also a chance to see how the University of Bedfordshire is responding and how we can disseminate those lessons,” said Nicola.

She added that Universities UK would continue to lobby vigorously for the Coalition Government to “think through the consequences” of the anticipated education cuts for the economy and for social mobility.
