The beautiful Norman church of St Mary’s in Luton will again host the graduation ceremonies for hundreds of University of Bedfordshire students next week.

Students who have graduated with degrees from the University’s four faculties – Creative Arts, Technologies and Science (CATS); Health and Social Sciences; The Business School; and Education and Sport – will be recognised at ceremonies on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (July 20 to 23) next week. Graduation ceremonies for the University’s Bedford Campus are taking place this week.

Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE said: “This is an exciting event which recognises and celebrates the achievements of our talented students. I congratulate them all and wish them every success for the future.”
Ten honorary degrees are also being awarded throughout the week in recognition of the achievements of people who have earned distinction in their particular field.

Among those who are being presented with honorary degrees are Pam Rhodes who for the past 23 years has presented the BBC religious programme Songs of Praise. In recognition of her contribution to news journalism and for her charitable works, Pam will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Arts.

Others being honoured include the Fleet Street journalist and industrial affairs writer Geoffrey Goodman, the businessman and entrepreneur Jan Telensky, local businessman Derek Ludlow and the University of Luton alumnus Lennox Adams in recognition of his contribution to the education of people with sensory impairments.

A civic ceremony when staff, special guests and students  process through the town to the church led  by the University Pipe Band will take place on Thursday, 22 July.
