The University of Bedfordshire was a key player at the hugely popular Bedford River Festival by sponsoring the Sports Village.
Hundreds of thousands of festival goers flooded The Embankment and Russell Park over the two days (Saturday and Sunday, 17-18 July) for this bi-annual spectacular.
The University was sponsoring the busy Sports Village and its marquee contained a variety of goodies for both young and old alike.
An Aimhigher initiative saw more than a dozen Year 10 students from local schools helping out in the tent on Saturday, while Sports Therapy student Rebecca Hall was on hand to ease some aching muscles throughout the weekend.
There was also a free prize draw which attracted hundreds of entrants each day. The two winners, who each receive £25 Amazon vouchers, were:
The University’s dragon boat team, known as the ‘Polhill Piranhas’, narrowly failed to defend their crown from 2008. They were runners-up in the final on Saturday in a genuine photo finish and also set the fastest time of the day, out of 30 crews, in an earlier heat.
Team organiser Martin Hargreaves said: “Setting the fastest time of the day was a fantastic achievement and although finishing second by the narrowest of margins was agonisingly frustrating, we proved ourselves yet again as champion contenders and gave a great presence and profile for the University.”
