Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon with Dr Jim Franklin

The contribution of Dr Jim Franklin in professionalising support services at the University was recognised at an event to mark his retirement as Registrar.

Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE said Jim had been a “magnificent servant of the University” since coming here seven years ago after initially arriving on a six-month secondment.

“Jim has helped transform the University in so many ways and professionalised our support services, first in his role as founding Registrar of Luton University then as Registrar of the University of Bedfordshire. We all owe him a huge debt,” he said.

“The merger [the University of Luton and De Montfort University’s Bedford campus] could not have happened without Jim.”

Alice Hynes who is currently Chief Executive of GuildHE, one of the two national representative bodies for Higher Education institutions, will take up the role of Registrar in September.

At the same event, Professor Ebdon also acknowledged the contribution of Andrew Slade, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Enterprise), who is leaving the University after three years in the role.
