The University of Bedfordshire is the first university to be working with the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust as an associate partner.
The University has pledged to raise £25,000 for the charity and in return will sponsor a Backing Talent event in the region next year for around 100 young people and their families.
Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be working with the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust. This is a very exciting partnership which will not only benefit the Trust but also feedback into the community when we sponsor a special event involving local families.”
Julie Whelan, CEO of the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the University of Bedfordshire. Through their support, many talented young sports performers, their coaches and athletes will have the opportunity to learn from a team of world class athletes what it really takes to reach the top in elite sport. With the decade of sport coming to the UK, this can only help these young people get set for success, and increase the chance of them achieving their potential.”
A formal launch of the partnership will take place next month (August).
