Michael Sup (student football coach - Luton)

Football is the big passion in the life of University of Bedfordshire student Michael Sup.

Michael, in his first year of a three-year Football Studies degree at the Luton campus, has landed a position with Blue Square Premier outfit Luton Town.

The Hatters, who missed out in this year’s play-offs to York City, have offered him a head coaching position for their under-12s in their Centre of Excellence from the start of next season.

Michael said: “The under-12s are one of Luton’s strongest squads apparently and it will be great experience for me. It cuts my summer short as I start in July but I don’t mind!”

The 20 year old from King’s Lynn, who recently gained his UEFA B Licence certificate in coaching, has been helping out with the squad in recent months under the guidance of youth team coach Martin Prickett.

Michael will be working part-time with the Luton youngsters on Tuesdays, Thursdays and at weekends where they will play fixtures against the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle United and Norwich City.

He previously worked full-time in his gap year for the King’s Lynn Community Football scheme in Norfolk as an area manager and head of girls’ football.

Last summer Michael was working in America, directing soccer camps for coaching company Play Soccer which operates across the whole of New England.

He added: “Coaching the under-12s for a club like Luton can only benefit me in my career. It’s really hard to make the breakthrough in this country and work at a top Premiership club.

“Ultimately I want to return to the States to work as a head coach. There are lots of opportunities around the world, so if not America, then Australia, Singapore or Hong Kong will do!”
