Lauren-Jade Kemp is writing her own headlines – she was the first of the journalism third year students at the University of Bedfordshire to find full-time work.
She has secured a full-time job as a content researcher with a publishing company in Welwyn Garden City called Executive Grapevine.
Ahead of graduating in July, the 24 year old from Luton is delighted with her first step on the job ladder.
“I wanted to get into the publishing side of things and hopefully this will be my first step to bigger and better things. I’ll now be putting to use the skills I’ve learned at University.
“I applied for loads of jobs before I got this one and it all happened really quickly after I had applied online.”
Lauren-Jade has completed her degree as well as bringing up her four-year-old daughter, Faith, with her partner.
She said: “Faith started school full time last September and things have got easier as she has got older. It wasn’t easy when she was just at pre-school with childcare being so expensive but it’s all definitely been worthwhile.”
Her new employer, Executive Grapevine, is the European leader in independent business publishing and information services for the executive talent management sector. The company has four divisions - Directories, Mailing Lists, Events and The Grapevine Magazine – which focus on the recruitment, retention and release of executive talent.
Deena Ingham, the University’s Programme Leader Journalism, said: “This is great news for Lauren-Jade, and another real personal achievement for her.
“She has managed to combine the crucial job of being a mum, with being an undergraduate and now securing that first all-important step on the career ladder.
“Lauren-Jade’s an example to many students who wonder if they can juggle everything – she’s proved that it IS possible!”
