There was standing room only as nine months of planning paid off at the spectacular Graduate Fashion Show at the University of Bedfordshire.

Thirty young models, drawn mainly from the University’s student population but also featuring a few professional ones, strutted their stuff at the UK Centre for Carnival Arts (UKCCA) on Thursday (17 June) night.

It was part of the opening night of the annual Art and Design Degree Show which is held at the Luton campus.

The fashion show saw a collaboration between Beverley Bothwell, Course Leader in Fashion Design, and Maria Wiener, Course Leader in Media Performance.

It is the third year in succession the University has staged a fashion show and around 350 people packed into the UKCCA for the first time. The University’s main Park Square building was the venue for the previous two years.

Beverley said: “There was lots of hard work from all the students involved and we started the planning back in September. It’s a great advert for our two departments.”

Maria said: “We’re still learning and every year is an improvement to the previous one. It’s a perfect way to start off the degree show and a perfect way to finish off our academic year.”

With Beverley’s students designing and making all the clothes, Maria and her students were responsible for hair and make-up.

The students are completing the third year of their degree after undertaking Foundation degrees at the University’s partner colleges.

The fashion show concluded the opening night of the Art and Design Degree Show which features work from final year students set to graduate in July.
