University
of Bedfordshire Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE spoke of the challenges
facing higher education at a high level conference in Amsterdam.
Professor Ebdon, chair of the think-tank million+, was guest speaker at the University Presidents’ Conference in Garderen.
The profiles of universities in the Netherlands are changing and the conference looked at the developments that have already taken place in post-1992 universities in England, comprehensive state universities in the US and Fachhochschulen in Germany.
Professor Ebdon said: “I was delighted to take part in this conference and provide an insight into the changes that have taken place in the higher education sector in the UK.
“We are living in challenging times but universities like Bedfordshire are adaptable, flexible and confident we can grow in the future. Our applications are up a staggering 55 per cent, testament to the quality of our teaching and expertise of our research.
“We also have a strong record of employability and are recognised for our student support and development opportunities beyond the curriculum. We have a strong message and it was a privilege to speak at such a high profile international event.”
