Professor Les Ebdon CBE was joined by local MP Patrick Hall and some of his key challengers for the Bedford and Kempston seat on Monday night (22 March) debating local and national issues such as the economy and higher education.
As well as Mr Hall, the panel consisted of prospective parliamentary candidates Richard Fuller (Conservative) and Henry Vann (Liberal Democrat) as well as Cheryl Smart (Acting CEO, Bedfordshire and Luton Chamber of Commerce) and Julie Sadlier who is President of the University of Bedfordshire Students’ Union.
The event was organised and sponsored by Local News TV in conjunction with the University of Bedfordshire, the Bedfordshire on Sunday newspaper, and Bedfordshire and Luton Chamber of Commerce.
The two-hour debate attracted nearly 100 people to the Lecture Theatre at the University’s Bedford campus in Polhill Avenue.
Professor Ebdon said: “It was a magnificent audience and Bedford will have an MP to be proud of, whichever one of them gets in at the next General Election.”
The eight questions covered a variety of topics:
The night was filmed and will be shown on the community website www.local-news.tv in the run-up to the General Election.
All proceeds from the night are going to the Bedfordshire and Luton Community Trust.
