There were 450 runners basking in bright sunshine for the Sport Relief races in Bedford on Sunday.

They ran one, three or six miles over four races in the Bedford Park event which was organised by the University of Bedfordshire in conjunction with Bedford Borough Council’s Sports Development Unit.

The University’s sports development officer Julia Lines was one of the organisers and she said: “It was a successful day and the weather was fantastic. The organisation went well and we’ll hear in a few weeks how much we raised in Bedford.

“There were a number of volunteers from the University, including the Sports Therapy students providing free massages, and the Students’ Union. We’d also like to thank helpers from Bedford and County AC as well as Kidzsize.

“The races were over-subscribed a week before the event and we were victims of our own success as Sport Relief couldn’t cater for anyone else.

"The number of entrants is limited by the number of water bottles and goody bags Sport Relief can supply.”
