The University of Bedfordshire is lending its backing to train the Olympic coaches of the future.
Partner college Tresham is offering a brand new degree level programme in Sports Coaching from this September.
This is part of Tresham’s developments in higher education for Northamptonshire in partnership with the University to train future top Olympic coaches.
Learners on the Foundation Degree in Sport will be able to ‘top-up’ to a full degree at university or go straight into employment within the sport industry after completing the course at Tresham.
The course will be available at Tresham’s Kettering campus and is available to individuals with a minimum of one A-Level, an equivalent vocational qualification or industry experience along with GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above.
Professor David Barrett, Dean of Partnerships at University of Bedfordshire, said: “With the Olympic Games and a refocus of attention on the UK, it was important to develop sports programmes which would be enduring in their communities.
“We have a close relationship with Tresham and this development is a continuation of the ever-increasing ties between the college and the University.”
Pam Fricker, Head of School for Sport, Travel and Public Services, said: “The new Foundation Degree will give learners the chance to gain a higher level qualification in sport close to home. This new course is a fantastic opportunity to study a higher level course without the costs or upheaval of moving away to university.
“We have some great facilities at Tresham and we are pleased to be able to offer this qualification in partnership with the University of Bedfordshire.”
