Globalisation was a key theme of the speech delivered by University of Bedfordshire Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE in Oman.
Professor Ebdon was speaking at the graduation ceremony of Majan University College, one of the largest private higher education institutions in the country with more than 1700 students.
The two Universities have a close partnership. Majan University College is affiliated to the University of Bedfordshire which awards degrees in Business and IT at undergraduate level and a postgraduate MBA (Masters in Business Administration).
Speaking at the ceremony which was attended by some 400 students, Professor Ebdon said: “With nearly a third of our income these days coming from our international activities, and the severe constraints upon our abilities to win more Government funding from the United Kingdom Government, we increasingly look to our international partnerships to help us grow and sustain our University.
“I am pleased to say we are doing some things right. In just six years we have grown from an institution with a £38million turnover to one with a £110million turnover. We have grown significantly in the numbers of students and we now have more than 20,000 University of Bedfordshire students worldwide.
“I very much appreciate the kindness of your hospitality whenever I visit Muscat and Majan University College in particular. I am always struck by the importance attached to education in this wonderful country and impressed by the support that the college receives from the Government and the community.”
