More than 2,000 Year 12 students got a taste of university life this week.

Drawn from schools and colleges from all over Bedfordshire, they were at the Bedfordshire Higher Education (HE) Fair on Monday.

This was the third year the Bedford campus of the University of Bedfordshire has hosted this event in association with Central Bedfordshire Council.

It attracted more than 80 institutions from all over the country including Oxford and Cambridge, Manchester and York, to exhibit.

The Year 12 students could be seeking university entry in 2011 and they had the opportunity to attend more than 20 workshops including those held by the University for Education and Teaching, Sports and PE, Nursing and Midwifery, Computing, Law and Drama and Performing Arts among others.

The University’s Head of Student Recruitment, Lal Joshi, said: “It was a great opportunity for us to showcase the University of Bedfordshire’s facilities to potential students and their tutors. It further enhances the University’s reputation within the region.”

Sheila Pembroke, from Children’s Services at Central Bedfordshire Council, said: “It went really well and the feedback already has been positive.

“There were more than 2,500 young people who had registered through their schools and colleges to attend which was fabulous.

“All the talks I sat in on were really informative and there were some good questions from the young people.

“Lal and his team and all the University’s student ambassadors were all first rate.”
