There was a double celebration for a local mother and daughter who have both graduated at the University of Bedfordshire in Luton.
Jacqueline Shakespeare, from Ampthill, achieved a 1st Class Honours in Social Work while her daughter Kelly Clifford from Luton gained a BSc in Healthcare.
Kelly, who is looking forward to the birth of her first child in May, said she was proud to share the occasion with her mum.
“Mum came to my graduation three years ago when I qualified as a nurse so I was very happy we could celebrate this day together,” she said.
“It was an advantage to be studying at the same time because it meant we could read each other’s work and check references. I saw how hard mum worked for her degree and she deserves her success.”
Kelly and Jacqueline joined hundreds of other University students who were graduating at ceremonies on Thursday and Friday at St Mary’s Church in the town.
They represented the University of Bedfordshire Business School, the Creative Arts, Technologies and Sciences Faculty as well as the Health and Social Science Faculty.
Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE, said: “I was delighted to see so many excited and happy faces and felt proud to take part in the ceremonies which recognise all the hard work our students have put in to achieve their goals.”
