Students from the BSc and MSc Computer Security and Forensic courses went to Cambridge to visit 7Safe’s training premises.
The lucky 13 went last Tuesday (4 May) afternoon to receive training from two of 7Safe’s commercial trainers, Jens Kirschner and Jerome Smith.
Students were given talks and practical exercises on forensic investigation and security testing as well as going on a tour of 7Safe’s forensic laboratory.
One of the students, Ayo Omotade, said: “I found it very rewarding because I could witness the operational side of forensic activities and also see what a real forensic laboratory looks like.
“It was also good to see how evidence is kept and preserved. The highlight of the visit for me was when we had to do sample hands-on exercises.”
Cambridge-based 7Safe is a partner of the University’s department of Computer Science and Technology (CST).
They have combined to offer a unique opportunity for those undertaking 7Safe training to enrol on a specific pathway of the MSc Computer Security and Forensic degree to attain an accredited postgraduate degree in addition to the first-class training which is offered by the company.
Geraint Williams, the CST Infrastructure Manager at the University, said: “This has proved very popular with 7Safe clients, and gives them a way to combine training with furthering their education and job prospects.”
