The University’s Professor James Crabbe got in the carnival mood when he tried on this starfish costume at the UK Centre for Carnival Arts in Luton.
The coral reef expert was on hand to celebrate the University’s sponsorship of the town’s carnival and the University’s work with the UKCCA to launch a foundation degree in carnival arts starting this September.
Professor Crabbe, Dean of the Faculty of Creative Arts, Technologies and Science, said: “The University is delighted to be sponsoring the event this year. The Carnival is a key date in the town’s calendar and the University is a proud supporter of such an important community and cultural event.
“We are also working in partnership with the UK Centre for Carnival Arts to launch a three-year, part-time foundation degree in carnival arts which will look at all elements of design and making within the carnival industry.”
CEO of UKCCA Paul Anderson, said: “We are happy to be working with the University on this project, to have our carnival artists skilled with the respective theory courses to match their already existing practical knowledge.
“It is also a great partnership that will also see beneficial investments for the community of Luton.”
Luton Carnival will run from 12noon until 7pm on Bank Holiday Monday, 31 May. For more information about the foundation degree email info@carnivalarts.org.uk
