preview for gaming conference 2010

The University of Bedfordshire has got Game in early June.

An annual conference is being staged at the Park Square campus in Luton on Wednesday, 2 June, called Under the Mask: Perspectives on the Gamer.

Now in its third year, it began as a reaction to the many digital game conferences that focused upon the game - while forgetting about the gamer.

Steven Conway, who is organising the conference along with Alison Gazzard, said: “Under the Mask was conceived as a conference where games would be studied as played by people, not just as static objects.

“With this in mind, each year has included gaming competitions (and a dedicated game room), the attendance of professional gamers, with talks geared towards discussing the who, how and why of playing, instead of what is played.”

This year’s conference is being partially sponsored by DiGRA (Digital Game Research Association) and features an industry keynote by Ste Curran, who is the Creative Director at Zoe Mode in the UK.

Steven added: “The conference is designed to be fun, informative, informal, and most importantly, free for all students!”
