You can never accuse Heather McClue from the University of Bedfordshire of not being up for the challenge.
She is joining players and supporters from Old Northamptonians Rugby Club - her son, Reiss, plays for their under-nines - to raise money for two charities by undertaking the National Three Peaks Challenge (TPC) on 11-12 June.
One charity is called Matt’s Match and is raising funds for Matt Herbert, a junior player at Old Northamptonians who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia last year. The other is The Anthony Nolan Trust which essentially matches patients with willing donors.
The National Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon - within 24 hours.
Heather, who joined the University in January 2008, is the programme leader for PGCE Secondary based at the Bedford campus.
An experienced hill walker who has previously climbed Ben Nevis, she said: “It’s for a great cause and the challenge is a personal one for me.”
The party of 30, which includes Heather and just two other women, will climb Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands on the Friday evening (11 June).
They will then travel to Scafell Pike in the Lake District and hopefully conquer this in the early hours of Saturday morning (12 June).
The last obstacle is Snowdon in North West Wales which will be climbed during daylight hours on the Saturday.
